William "Bill" Joseph Heilers July 8, 1939 ~ May 12, 2017 William (Bill) Joseph Heilers, 77, of Scappoose passed away May 12, 2017, of complications of Myasthenia Gravis while surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born to Leonard and Dorothy Heilers on July 8, 1939 in Onalaska, Washington, and moved to St. Helens, Oregon, when he was 3. Bill attended St. Helens High School and graduated in June of 1957. Following graduation Bill attended Oregon State College. On September 17, 1960, Bill married his sweetheart and skating partner, Carol Wilkinson. Bill worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years. Bill and his daughters were active in St. Helens High School athletics. After his daughters graduated from high school, Bill remained an active supporter of St. Helens athletics and ran the scoreboard for high school football games for many years. He was a past treasurer and very active member of the St. Helens High School Booster Club. Bill was inducted into the St. Helens High School Hall of Fame in 2007 for community support. He was also inducted as a member of the 1956 state champion basketball team. Bill was a competitor at heart. He was a competitive roller skater, and co-founder and original coach of the girls’ Pixie Softball League. He was active in basketball, slot car racing, golf, tennis, racquetball, and a stock-car pit crew member. When his daughters reached an age for school sports, he put his competitive desires aside to support his daughters through middle school, high school and collegiate sports. Unfortunately, his illness prevented him from supporting his grandchildren as much as he would have liked. Bill always said his greatest accomplishment was raising two wonderful daughters. He had great love for his family. He enjoyed visiting the coast, eating crab with his friends and rooting for the Oregon State Beavers. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, his 2 daughters, Theresa Trotter (Scappoose), Meredith (Duffer) Vick and husband, Jerry (Olympia), and 2 grandchildren (Joey and Haley Vick). Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Dorothy, his brother Leonard and baby twins (1962). May Bill rest in peace. He will live forever in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 3-6 pm at Fred Winter Hall, 51590 SE Westlake Dr, Scappoose, OR 97056. Please sign our online guestbook at www.columbiafh.com.
