Lois Marie Lammers

Lois Marie Lammers passed away to heaven on April 17, 2012 in St. Helens, Oregon. Her parents, Floyd and Dassie McDaniel, brothers, Norman and Claude McDaniel and her husband, John Lammers, predeceased her. Lois was born on October 10, 1917 in a log cabin on a Montana homestead. Farming, ranching, and enjoying extended family characterized her childhood. As a young girl, she rode on horseback to a one-room school in Luther and was known to be an excellent young rider. Growing up on a rural ranch, she learned to shoot a rifle, raise all kinds of livestock and poultry, and cook. Upon attaining the proper age Lois moved off the ranch to attend High School in Red Lodge. During this time she learned to become an exceptional cook while working in the boarding house where she stayed. After high school graduation, Lois moved to Billings and worked in hosiery reweaving shop until she, her friends and brothers traveled to San Diego to find better jobs and assist in effort to win WWII. Lois chose to work at a Consolidated aircraft factory building B-24 bombers. While in San Diego, Lois meet John at the famous USS Grant Hotel, where he happened to be singing in a radio gospel choir. They fell in love and were married in the Spring of 1945. In 1950 John and Lois moved to Del Norte County where they built a home and raised their family. John worked in the timber industry and Lois served lunches at DNHS. She also tended children and cared for the elderly. John and Lois enjoyed their friends and neighbors and tried to be of help to them in many ways. Lois leaves behind, her two children, Carolyn Lammers Dunwoody and Tim Lammers; five grandchildren, Marina Wetrosky, Mark Michalski, Rich Lammers, Robbie Lammers and Ryan Lammers. Tim and his wife, Joann, cared for Lois in her last years. Thank you to the staff at Spring Meadows Assisted Living who not only cared for her but also loved her deeply. Lois' family is grateful for their kindness and service. Lois was known by her family to be a dedicated Christian believer, a diligent mother, an excellent cook and a "green thumb" in the garden. She will be missed for the stories she told, the delicious cookies and pies she baked, and the vegetables, fruits and flowers she grew.
