May 25, 1968 - December 12, 2018
Miles Robinson, 50, of St. Helens, OR, died the morning of December 12, 2018, in his home, due to congestive heart failure. His heart condition has been a daily physical and emotional battle for him over the past 4 years since discovering his aneurysm and bicuspid aortic valve (birth defect). He endured two open heart surgeries in 2015, one in March and one in September. While this was difficult for him in so many ways, he never gave up and always lived life to the fullest within his ability. That ability would be ever flowing and changing and he would often be hospitalized due to set backs and complications of his condition but would bounce back in great Miles fashion. His love for family and friends was infinite and he touched so many lives with his explosive personality, quirky character, contagious humor and generous, kind soul. Beside his intense love for family and friends his passion in life was wildland firefighting. When on a fire, Miles was in his element. This is where he was the most certain, fearless, knowledgeable and confident in his actions. This is when he felt most fulfilled and purposeful. Thousands of firefighters had the privilege of having him by their side on the fire line and many had the honor of having him as a mentor on their first fires, including his wife, Barbi. There is no measure for how many people he positively affected by his strong sense of duty and honor, no measure for how many lives he saved. In addition to his service to his country as a wildland firefighter, he served in the US Navy from 1985 to 1989. He served on the USS Ranger as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate and ship’s company SAR (Search and Rescue) Swimmer from 1986 to 1989. Miles was the wonderful husband of Barbi Robinson, beloved father to Jakob Robinson, Austin Robinson, Garret Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Lara Huffsmith and Jenna Huffsmith, and amazing grandfather of Dakota Drake (9 years old), Chance Drake (3 years old), Carleigh Jennings (3 years old), Renton Robinson (1 year old) and Maylin Robinson (infant). A celebration of Miles’ extraordinary and wonderful life will be held at Meriwether Place, 1070 Columbia Blvd., St. Helens, Oregon at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019. This will be a time to share photos, memories and stories of our moments and experiences with Miles. We will be organizing a potluck for those that are local and wish to bring food. We welcome any and all that wish to come and share in this celebration of his life. For friends and family that wish to send an expression of remembrance, please send a donation instead of flowers. Donations may be made in honor of Miles’ memory to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation at wffoundation.org. A link to the donation site will also be on facebook.
