June 7, 1930 - March 8, 2021
Our dear Margaret Agnes Lowry, who was living with family in St Helens, Oregon, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 8, 2021. She was 90 years old. Maggie, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was married to Harold Lowry who predeceased her in August 2019. Maggie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 7, 1930 to Stanley and Agnes Hallsworth. She was the oldest of 8 children. All have predeceased her with the exception of her youngest sister, Ruth Paulson of Grants Pass, Oregon. Ruth shared a fond memory when, as a baby in a crib, Maggie and another sister, Delores, fought over who would save her during a house fire – and, as Ruthie said, they never let her forget it. While younger, her parents moved to California where she lived for many years before moving with her husband back and forth to Oregon following his career. Maggie worked in the restaurant and retail industries for many years. Being a social butterfly, she loved crocheting blankets as gifts, being involved with the Elks Lodge, Red Hat Ladies, helped establish a camper club in Yucca Valley, CA and was part of many other clubs and organizations. Her son, Ron, recalls that while he was growing up she loved going to the beach, working on jigsaw puzzles, spending time with her sisters/family and decorating for each holiday. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and traveled to Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii, Mexico and across the USA. Maggie is survived by her children: Robin Christiansen and husband Richard of Salem, Oregon; Ron Spanbauer and wife, Lynda of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; her stepchildren Gayle Dingman and husband Scot of Scappoose, OR; Jim Russell and wife Cindy of Salem, OR; Michael Caughell of Bellingham, WA; Barbara Lowry of Klamath Falls OR; and Mark Lowry of Portland, OR. Besides her children and stepchildren of 47 years, she leaves 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins - all whom she loved and will miss her dearly. Maggie will be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA with her parents and other family members. Due to Covid, no physical service can take place at this time, but any who are interested in joining a video memorial service via ZOOM, please contact Gayle Dingman at [email protected] who will send out the notice and zoom info once a date is decided for sometime later in April. Please sign our online guestbook at www.columbiafh.com In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Alzheimers or Dementia charity.
