Agnes Jane Thompson's Obituary
Agnes was a lifelong resident of this area. She married William Alpheus Thompson in 1935. The couple made their home in Houlton, where their one child was born. She was from a Yankton pioneer family. She attended Yankton Grade School and graduated from John Gumm High School. She later graduated from Oregon Normal School in Monmouth, Oregon. In the late 1920s she taught school in Happy Hollow near Yankton. During World War 11 she worked in industry. During most of the war she was a welder at the Oregon Shipyards, where she built Liberty Ships. After the war, she taught in Goble, Holbrook and Skyline Schools until her retirement. Thompson was active in tatting, quilting, sewing, caregiving and gardening. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Johnnie Sobieski, Grace Hendricks, Harriet Sobieski and Patricia Reimer.
