Alan Richard Foey's Obituary
Alan Richard Foey of Scappoose died April 28 at home due to cancer. He was 59 years old. Alan was born to Vivian Bates and Sammie Foey on January 17, 1947 in Red Bluff, CA. He earned his AA degree from Shasta College in Redding, CA and him BA degree from Uof C Chico. Alan moved to Scappoose in June 1970 to begin his teaching career at Scappoose High School. He taught drafting and Industrial Arts for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Alan was an assistant wrestling coach from 1970 to 1975 and 1996 to 2000. He also coached teams fro the Scappoose Soccer Assoc. and a boys' Classic team. Alan loved the outdoors and hunting and never missed a deer hunt. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He started the Scappoose High School Ski Club and for many years voluntarily took students to Mt Hood and Mt Bachelor. He also started the SHS Paintball Club and got many students interested in the sport. Woodworking was another interest and he built his own home in 1975. He was very creative and made many pieces of keepsake furniture for his family. Family members would show hime a picture of something they wanted, and Alan would build it. He also did wood carving and metal sculpture. Survivors include, his wife, Shirley, whom he married in 1969; his daughters, Janine of Foster City, CA and Jennie of Portland; his son Jason of Scappoose; his parents Sammie Fey of Scappoose; Vivian Bataes of Alturas, CA; his sister Lorraine Schoeneman and husband Jeff of Tijers, NM; his brother, Mike Foey of Ridgefield, WA; great aunt Brenda Foey of Scappoose; brother-in-law Lawrence Fong and Wife Christine of Eugene; nephews David Long of Novato, CA, Michael Long of NYC, NY, Ben Fong of Eugene, Nick Foey of West Linn, OR and niece Robin Fong of Eugene. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles. Services will be Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Scappoose with committal following at Columbia Memorial Gardens. Visitation at Columbia Funeral Home is Friday 9am-8pm and Saturday 9am to 11am. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Chinese Classical Gardens in Portland.
