Albert Harry Schmit died on August 20, 2016 in Portland, Oregon surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
He was born on September 11, 1928 in Scappoose, Oregon to Antonia and Jacob Schmit. He attended Scappoose Schools and graduated in 1946.
He married Loretta (Sally) Vanderwerf in 1951. He worked at Linnton Box Factory for nine years and then became a Longshoreman with local 8 for 35 years. Albert was also a member of the Catholic Workman in which he had served as both president and vice president at various times. Albert was dedicated to his family, farm and faith.
Albert is survived by his loving wife Sally and their four children- Carolyn Schmit, Randy Schmit, Dave (Becky) Schmit, Toni (Greg) Nelson and two grandchildren, Colin (Terri) Nelson and Jay Nelson and one great grandson Cooper Nelson. He is also survived by Sally’s brother and four sisters in laws and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers and their wives.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10am at St. Brigitta’s Catholic Church in Linnton.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St. Brigitta’s Catholic Church or the Scappoose Senior Center.
