Aleta Jo Japs May 17, 1926 ~ October 17, 2016
Aleta Jo Japs, a 72-year resident of St. Helens, passed away October 17, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born in Missouri to Forest and Bessie Sherer, the oldest of 5. At age 14 she met "the love of her life", Bernie Japs. They celebrated 70 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2014.
Jo was mother of 3, grandmother of 3 and great grandmother of 7 who all dearly loved her. Her life was centered around family and serving others through the United Methodist Church, Camp and Retreat Ministries, Girl and Boy Scouts, Sweet Adelines, and the Peace Corps.
Her motto was, "Anytime you have a chance to help someone, Do It!"
She will be missed by the many people whose lives she has touched.
Private burial will be at Willamette Cemetery in Portland.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 29 at 2:00pm at the St. Helens First United Methodist Church, 560 Columbia Blvd.
Instead of flowers consider honoring Jo by donating to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or to Camp and Retreat Ministries.
