Aloysius Joseph Soenneker's Obituary
Aloysius Joseph Soenneker - St. Helens, Oregon, died November 21, 2004 during a symphony in Portland, Oregon, one of his great loves. He was born July 22, 1944 in Melrose, Minnesota.
He was the executive director for Riverside Training Centers from 1991 to the present and the executive director for the Coast Rehabilitation Center from 1999 to the present. He was program manager for District 1 State of Arizona, Department of Economic Security, Developmental Disabilities Division from 1998-1991; Executive director of ARC of Oregon from 1977-1983. From 1995-1999 he was the president of the Oregon Rehabilitation Association. He was the recipient of the Silva Mann Caper Award from ARC of Oregon in 2002.
Al was a very spiritual man who persued a religious vocation early in his life at the Croser Monestary. He was a member of the St. Frederic Parish since 1992 where he served on the liturgical and pastoral committees, member of Kiwanis and active volunteer with United Way of Columbia County, member of Crosier Monastary from 1967-1969. He loved sailing the Columbia and windy areas of the Oregon Coast. Contributions may be given to Oregon Rehabilitation Association or to St. Frederic Catholic Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Rathana Soenneker of Boston, MA, his daughter, Marlayna Soenneker, a University of Oregon grad student at Eugene, 4 brothers, Hank, Joe, Norb, David Soenneker; 2 sisters, Helen & Mary, numerous nieces and nephews, and his mother Mary Magdalen Soenneker of Melrose, Minnesota. His father, Joseph Soenneker preceded him in death. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 10:00 AM at St. Frederic Catholic Church, St. Helens, Oregon.
