Alta S. Bever's Obituary
Alta S. Bever was born on May 2, 1919 in Wisner, Louisiana to Lloyd & Betsy Roberts Stephens.
She died at her home in St. Helens on August 30, 2004 at the age of 75.
She grew up as the daughter of a share cropper with 8 brothers & sisters in Louisiana. She knew the value of a dollar.
She met Will in Arkansas when she went to visit her brother and 3 months later they were married on 7/3/47, married for 47 years.
She worked in a bag factory in Arkansas until her children were born. They moved to Reedsport, OR. when her husband was transferred with the papermill. They raised thier family there and helped start the Church of Christ. They moved to St. Helens in 1991 to be close to family.
Her enjoyments included quilting, bible teaching, vacations back to Louisiana to visit family. Early on she designed the plans for thier home.
She liked sniker & 3 musketeer candy bars.
Survived by Husband: Will Bever of St. Helens; Sons: Glenn of Fresno, CA.; Ralph of Vancouver, WA.; Daughter: Tess Ogle of St. Helens; Siblings: Houston Stephens oc Camden, Arkansas, Marie Ducan of New Orleans, LA.; Betty Riley & Bonnie Cagle both of W. Monroe, LA.; Elsie Brooks of Baton Rouge, LA.; 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 brothers.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Columbia Funeral Home-St. Helens, OR.
Private interment: Willamette National Cemetery-Portland, OR.
