Alvin Donald Houghtelling's Obituary
Alvin Donald Houghtelling was born May 7, 1935 in Stockville, Nebraska the son of Archie and Anna Housley Houghtelling. He died March 28, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, Oregon.
Alvin moved to St. Helens with his brother and uncles to work at the papermill right after high school. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was married May 23, 1953 in Stevenson, Washington to Dixie G. Briggs. He and Dixie served on a senior couples mission from 1994 to 1995 at Louisville, Kentucky.
Alvin worked at Boise Cascade for 38 years retiring as a shift supervisor. He was proud to be a volunteer firefighter for 15 years, and police and sherriff reserve. He was a pitcher in baseball, swam, hunted, fished and spent many hours on his computer. Alvin served in the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie G. Houghtelling of St. Helens; His children, Richard Houtelling of Las Vegas, Debra Cade of St. Helens, Kathryn Houghtelling of Las Vegas, Diana Houghtelling of Glendale, AZ, Ronald Houghtelling of St. Helens, and Wendy Wilson of Rigby, Idaho; his brother, Lloyd Houghtelling of San Leando, CA, his sister, Lucille Wollam of Lebanon, Oregon and 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. Helens with committal at Columbia Memorial Gardens, Scappoose.
