Amelia Clara Fleming's Obituary
Amelia “Butch” Clara Fleming
January 23, 1925 ~ March 16, 2016
Amelia “Butch” Clara Fleming was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Vancouver, Washington, to Alan and Clara Bales of Ridgefield, Washington.
She married Charles Fleming, of Ridgefield, Washington, on September 15, 1944. They were married 73 years. She went to California while he was stationed there in the Army Air Corps. They were married on the day he was leaving for service.
Amelia enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting, having fun with her friends and deer hunting. She worked side-by-side with Charles, as he was a Columbia River gillnetter; they enjoyed doing everything together.
During the last year, they both lived at Spring Meadows Assisted Living in St. Helens, due to illness.
Amelia passed on from congestive heart failure, which she had battled for quite awhile through the years. Many thanks to the team at Spring Meadows for their thoughtfulness and excellent nursing skills. Also, thanks to Hospice for their great care.
Amelia is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Fleming, of St. Helens; daughter, Sandra Fleming of St. Helens; grandchildren Tammy Oliva, of Longview, Washington; Charles German, of Portland and Danette Russell of Columbia City – many thanks to Danette for taking charge and giving their “Nana” the best of guidance and care; her sister Mary Krueger, of Beaverton, Oregon; five great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews.
A brother, William Bales, of Vancouver, Washington, and sister Sylvia Russell of Camas, Washington, preceded her in death.
A small service at Columbia Funeral Home, in St. Helens, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016. No graveside service will follow. She will rest in peace at Columbia Memorial Gardens, in Warren, Oregon.
Many thanks for the cards and flowers that showed such thoughtfulness during this hard time.
She will be missed deeply by family and friends, but will always remain deep in our hearts. She was a wonderful wife, mother and “Nana”. We Love You.
