Bernadette M. Cogozzo, 91, May 17, 1925 - August 10, 2016. Bertie was born in Chicago, Il, the daughter of Alphonse V. and Susan M. (DeFrancesco) Cogozzo. She grew up with brothers Joseph, Ludovic and Alphonse.
Bernadette graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago. After high school she worked at both Crane Co. and Automatic Transmission Co. that made parts for WWII.
On October 2, 1948 she married Alexander F. Albertine. They moved to Portage, Indiana and began their family.
In 1961 they moved to Sherwood, Oregon with their first three children. There they had their fourth child. Once the kids were in school, Bernadette worked for Manpower, Freightliner, Sherwood Canning Company, and Sherwood School District.
They moved to John Day, Oregon in 1978 to a 10,000 acre cattle ranch. There she was a homemaker and Al’s “ranch assistant.”
She worked in the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office when they moved to Bend in 1981. She and Al then retired in Columbia City, Oregon in 1994.
Bernadette is survived by her children David (Peggy) of Portland, John of Annapolis, MD, Susan McReynolds, (Dan) of Puyallup, WA and Paul (Tami) of Hillsboro; ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and brother Ludovic Cogozzo of Staunton, IL.
Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and kind demeanor that won the hearts of many.
A rosary will be said at 10:15 am followed by a funeral at 11:00 am with a reception following on August 20th at St. Frederic Catholic Church, 175 South 13th Street, St. Helens, OR. A visitation time is also scheduled for Friday, August 19 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Columbia Funeral Home, 681 Columbia Blvd. St. Helens OR. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, 12:00 noon August 22. The family requests that donations be made to Mt.
