Bernard Kale Fast
June 19, 1939 - December 31, 2014
Bernard “Bud” Fast of St. Helens, Oregon died at his home on December 31, 2014 at the age of 75. He was born June 19, 1939 in Buxton, Oregon to Loyd and Doris (Whiteside) Fast. Bud attended grade school in Buxton and graduated from Banks High School, growing up he was an All Star Baseball player in 1957. He served in the United States Army from 1958 – 1960 stationed in Hawaii. On June 19, 1964 he married Sandra Lee Spenst at the Gales Creek Church in Gales Creek, Oregon they were married for over 50 years.
Bud worked as a millwright for Owens Corning and as a truck driver for JH Kelly for 19 years, he retired in 2009. His true passion was auto racing, he was a member of Columbia County Racing Association from 1964-2010 and a member of NASCAR. In his spare time he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Fast, daughters; Vicki (Matt) Browning and Tricia (Sam) Brittain, grandchildren; Zackery (Jamie Varner) Brittain and Natasha (Darrin) Rye, great grandchildren Kolten Rye, Sandra Brittain and Bridgett Obrist, sister; Bernice (Bonnie McCabe) Cop, brother; Cleo Fast and his uncle LeRoy Whiteside.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Fast.
A memorial service was held January 3, 2014 at Columbia Funeral Home.
