Berta Fay Hampton's Obituary
Berta Fay Hampton, 79, of Columbia City, Oregon, died of complications due to cancer on
June 24, 2014 at Legacy Hopewell House Hospice in Portland, Oregon.
Berta was born to Kermit C. and Ollie S. Parker on November 4, 1934, in Vandervoort, Arkansas. The family relocated to Turner, Oregon in 1945. She attended Cascade High School, and married the love of her life, Lorne Hampton, in 1952.
Berta was a homemaker when her children were young. In 1972 she and her husband started Hampton Construction. They retired in 1999. Berta and Lorne traveled in their motorhome to all 50 United States except Hawaii.
Nicknamed “Bud” when she was a child, Berta is still known as Bud to her sisters and as Aunt Bud to her nieces and nephews. She loved her family, and doted on the grandchildren. She spent many summers gardening both vegetables and flowers, and spent winters quilting. She has given many beautiful quilts to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as donating several of them to the victims of the Vernonia flood.
Berta is predeceased by her husband, Lorne in 2013. She is survived by her 2 children: Brenda (Dennis) Farland of Longview, and DeWayne (Debora) Hampton of Columbia City,
6 grandchildren: Christopher Scheu, Joseph (Eleanor) Farland, Angela (Gabino) Salgado, Ryan (Danielle) Hampton, Nikki Farland, and Shawn Hampton, 13 great grandchildren, 7 sisters: Fern Chamberlin, Edna Carter, Imo Neal, Bernice Methvin, Ival McCollum, Lee Wilson, and Mary Peterson.
A Memorial service will be held at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014.
