BetteLynn Bartlett's Obituary
BetteLynn Bartlett, age 83, passed away in Portland, Oregon on December 19, 2019. She was born in Clatskanie, Oregon on April 3, 1936. Her parents were Elma and William “Bill” Kumpula. In her youth her parents managed bowling alleys in Clarkston and Yakima Washington, Lewiston and Mullen Idaho. At age 15 they came to St. Helens where she remained the rest of her life.
She attended the University of Oregon and Portland State University. Mrs. Bartlett began teaching at the St. Helens Junior High School in 1963. It’s an interesting coincidence that the same building where she graduated from High School (the former Condon Elementary School) was converted into the Junior High School where she taught her first two years before moving to the Junior High building that was recently torn down. She retired from teaching after 30 years.
BetteLynn was married to Wayne Bartlett in July 1958 and they remained married 61 years until her death. Both BetteLynn and Wayne retired from teaching in the St. Helens School District.
Her interests included lake fishing, genealogy and travel.
BetteLynn Bartlett is survived by her husband, Wayne; daughter, Lynn (Ken) Riley; son, Craig; brother, Ron “Rick”; granddaughters, Brittany (Mike) and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Dakota, Paisley and Sawyer.
No service will be held. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
