Betty J. Diess' Obituary
Betty Jane Diess of Scappoose passed away September 23, 2009. She was 81.
Betty Jane was born on November 20, 1927 in Platte County, Nebraska.
On June 5, 1948, she married Fred L. Diess in Roseburg, Oregon and then again for their 50th anniversary in 1988 at Grace Lutheran Church in Scappoose, Oregon.
Known as a wonderful homemaker, she was all about family. She loved being a grandmother and each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were dear to her.
A member of the Grace Lutheran Church, she served with the Stephens Ministry.
Among the things she enjoyed were reading, camping with her family, singing with the Sweet Adelines, and her garden, most especially her orchids.
She is survived by her children, Fred Diess Jr. of St. Helens, Jim Diess of Summerville, South Carolina, Starla Gebbie of Scappoose, Ron Diess of Scappoose, and Bonnie Brown of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Wright of Roseburg; brothers, Jesse Lowman of Beaverton, David Wolske of Vancouver, Washington; and George Wolske of Falls City, Virginia; and sister-in-law June Diess of Rogue River.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fred L. Diess on February 20, 2005.
A Celebration of Life and the union with her husband, the love of her life, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church in Scappoose, Oregon.
Private family committal service will follow.
Memorial gifts may be made to the special education services in the Scappoose School District.
