Betty Rockey's Obituary
Betty Rockey, 86, former resident of Westport, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Friday, February 3, 2012. She was born in Stoneham, Colorado, August 9, 1925 the daughter of Arthur Blaine and Gertrude Stouffer Harwood.
She came with her family to St. Helens, Oregon at the age of 6 and graduated from high school there in 1943. In high school she met Don Rockey, he being of Scappoose, a rival high school and she of St. Helens. But love won out and on Dec 21, 1943 they were married in Vancouver, WA.
They lived in Olympia and after World War II, Don worked for the Reserve Fleet in Budd Inlet at Olympia for a number of years. In 1963 they moved to Westport and opened Sunrise Charters where Betty was very active in operating the office. They retired in 1987. For a while Betty operated the Westport/Ocean Shores passenger ferry office at Westport. Don Rockey died in 1995.
Betty was a member of the Westport Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Trinity Chapter No. 215, Order of Eastern Star, Olympia and was active in the Westport Lighthouse Museum. She also enjoyed traveling and collecting lighthouses.
Betty is survived by a daughter: Karen and husband Ken Gores, Happy Valley, OR; a son: Lyle and wife Niela Rockey, Lafayette, LA; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. All nine of her brothers and sisters died before her.
Graveside service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, February 8th in Columbia Memorial Gardens, Scappoose, Oregon
