Beverly Gay Thorp's Obituary
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 9:30am followed by a Memorial Mass at 10am, Wednesday, December 7th at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Scappoose. Beverly passed away in Portland on December 2nd, she was 60 years old.
Beverly was born January 26, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Joseph N. and Elsie May Corbett Clark, the fifth of seven daughters. The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1951 and then to St. Helens in 1962. She graduated Class of 1969.
In her early years, she worked at her parent's business, "Elsie's Fountain Lunch and later Bev worked for US Bank for over 30 years retiring in June of 2010 as an Assistant Trust Manager at the downtown corporate bank tower. She also worked for five years at the Scappoose branch of the St. Helens Community Credit Union in mortgage banking.
Bev was a member of St Frederic Catholic Church for several years and taught Sunday School Classes. It was on a Sunday School outing to Longview for a roller skating event that she was to meet the man of her heart and life, Dayton Ray Thorp. It was just under a year later that they were wed on May 20, 1989.
In 1992 they became members of St Wenceslaus Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and Sunday School teacher for several years.
During the children's school years she was active in the PTA, the Safe and Sober Program and for over 10 years was secretary for their Boy Scouts Troop.
Her love for life was apparent to all who knew her and family always came first. Beverly enjoyed the beach, multitudes of camping trips, ocean cruises to Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean, cross country skiing and reading. Her talents were many, and she especially enjoyed cake decorating, cooking, baking, and tole painting.
Bev is survived by her husband of 22 years, Dayton, children; Jolena Finnell of Rainier, Joseph Thorp of Columbia City, Jesse Thorp of Scappoose, 5 grandchildren; Hope Finnell, Trinity Thorp, Evan Finnell, Ethan Thorp and Kaylee Thorp, sisters; Joyce Gumm of Milwaukie, Judy Valpiani of Columbia City, Sunday Summer of Ogden, Utah and Mary Dorry of St. Helens. Pre-deceased by parents and sisters; JoAnn Swaim and Carolyn Jean Bower.
