Calvin Duane Jillson's Obituary
Calvin Duane Jillson was born on February 21, 1929 in Ipswich, S. Dakota to Calvin E. & Helen Sloan Jillson.
He died at his home in St. Helens on June 9, 2005 at the age of 76.
He attended country grade school and graduated from Ispwich High School in 1947. He married Kathryn Jones on August 28, 1948 in Ipswich, S. Dakota where they lived except for a short time in Minnestoa, until moving to Oregon in 1952.
He worked in the plywood mills in the Coos Bay and St. Helens area until he was forced to retire due to poor heath in 1965 when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In 1989, he suffered a massive stroke which left hime a quadrapalegic. His family has cared for him at home.
He was also a volunteer fireman for the St. Helens Fire Department joining in 1962 and was awarded the Volunteer Fireman award for the year of 1964. He was an avid coin collector and also enjoyed working in the yard, even when he was confined to his wheelchair. He also had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife: Kathryn Jillson, 3 sons: Ken & Allen both of St. Helens; Calvin C. Jillson of Plano, TX.; Siblings: Virginia Blank of Portland; Donna Steffenson of Eagen, Minn.; Gene Jillson of Grand Terrace, CA.; 2 grandchildren: Cal & Susan.
Preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother.
