Carol grew up in a football family. She often spoke of how her father, James Aiken - a resolute football coach, would draw out plays on the flyleaf of any book that happened to be in his hand. The family moved from Ohio to Reno, Nevada when Carol was four years old to coach at the University of Nevada. Magical years ensued for Carol in Reno as young person - she loved to ride her yellow bike and feed the horses in the field just blocks from her home.
The University of Oregon was the next stop for Carol and her family. She attended more football games “than I could count” she would often say. Carol received her degree in education from the University of Oregon and did post graduate studies at Stanford University. She had a passion for education, US history and loved being a teacher. At the University of Oregon she pledged Delta Gamma sorority eventually becoming president of that chapter.
Carol met her husband, Bill, while he served in the Air Force. They had 53 wonderful years together before Bill’s death in 2012. Always practical they were married on December 26th, 1959 to take advantage of the high school Christmas holiday for their honeymoon.
Carol has four children Mike, Brad, Doug, and Danny. Carol was preceded in death by her son Doug, who died in 1985. She is survived by her son Mike and her daughter-in-law Lisa; her son Brad and her daughter-in-law Annabelle and her son Danny. As well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol loved her family and it was always her top priority. Often worrying about her “boys” and making sure all of her family was on the right track. She had a particular sweet spot for the little ones and the babies. Carol lit up like a Christmas tree when cuddling up the grandkids or when she had the opportunity to visit with her great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed. We love you, Mom.

Graveside service will be held January 11, 2025 at 1:00PM at Columbia Memorial Gardens.
