Cedric LeRoy Olsen
January 30, 1924 ~ October 6, 2016
Cedric LeRoy Olsen was born January 30, 1924 in Whiterocks on the Ute Indian Reservation near Vernal, Utah. He passed away on October 6, 2016 in an assisted living facility in Vancouver, Washington, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Barbara, and his sons, Harold (Donna) and Brad (Linda). In addition, he is survived by his sister, Lola Hill, 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren, 2 step great-great-grandchildren.
When he was 2 years old, Cedric’s family moved to Vernal where he attended school through his junior year in high school. At that time, he moved to Rainier, Oregon with the Johnstun family. His parents and siblings soon followed, and Cedric joined them in St. Helens, Oregon where he graduated from high school.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cedric attended church in St. Helens. There he met Barbara Neer Heimuller whom he married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 18, 1942.
When World War II broke out, Cedric joined the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on March 6, 1946, and moved to Warren, Oregon. After a few short jobs, he went to work for PGE from which he eventually retired. During his lifetime, Cedric was active in community affairs, serving on the Warren School Board, local Boy Scout troops, and the Columbia Vector Control Board of Trusties. However, his primary interest was raising his family. He loved to take them hunting, fishing and camping. He also maintained a strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many positions in his church.
A Funeral was held at the LDS Church in St. Helens on October 12, 2016. Interment followed at Columbia Memorial Gardens.
