Charles Clowdus' Obituary
Charles Clowdus was born on August 22, 1961, in Red Bluff, California, to Charles and Mary Clowdus. He was one of eleven children. He often reminisced about his time in Neah Bay, Washington as the happiest time of his childhood. Of all the places he’d been, he loved the Pacific Northwest the most.
Charles was known for having a jovial nature, a quick wit, and an epic sense of humor. He was admired for his remarkable ability to turn any situation into a humorous story; a talent which continued his entire life. While growing up he spent many afternoons entertaining his younger sisters with hilarious shows that included pantomime, music, and scripted scenes. He enthusiastically introduced them to the world of rock-n-roll music, leading to many fights over who got to pick the next record, which he usually won. It was HIS record player. His love of laughter and music will live on in the hearts of his biggest fans forever.
As an adult he continued his entertainment “career”, performing for his three lovely daughters, Mary Beth, Cecilia, and Natalie Clowdus. They were the light of his life. Charles’ number one goal was to give his daughters lasting memories and no reason to worry about anything. Family time often turned into stand-up, improv comedy routines that lasted for hours at a time. There was nothing boring about the Clowdus home.
Charles also ensured time with his girls was spent raising them to think philosophically, spiritually, and critically. In the midst of laughter, there were countless conversations about the origins of the universe, the human condition, and the absurdity of life. Charles will always be remembered by his girls as someone who cared deeply about the truth while keeping it light and fun. He was a father who worked hard to make sure everyone had what they needed and then some, at times sacrificing his own needs and wants to provide for those he loved.
He was resilient in times of trouble, pragmatic when necessary, and he never ended a conversation without saying, “I love you”. His antics and his sincerity, as well as his kindness and genuine nature will be missed. Father, son, brother, and friend.
Charles exited this world on January 13, 2024. He was greeted on the other side by his parents, his sister Laura Rose, his brother-in-law Mike Huebel, and his beloved daughter Mary Beth (Williams). He patiently waits, stage left, for his siblings, his daughters, and their spouses; Sharon Huebel, Paul and Lenora Clowdus, Jeff Clowdus, Wanda Dye and Mike Dye, Anne and Tom Hayes, David and Holly Clowdus, Randy Rose, Lorraine and Johnny Bolf, Naomi Clowdus and Terry King, and Allyson McInnis; Gentry Williams, Cecilia and Marc Harmon, and Natalie Clowdus; and 22 nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Yankton Hillcrest Cemetery in St. Helens, Oregon on January 31, 2024, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Gina Harrington officiating.
