Charles H. Bonar's Obituary
Charles H. Bonar
Charles H. Bonar was born in Cameron, Mo., on Nov. 25, 1917, and passed away in Portland on Nov. 9, 2010.
Chuck was the youngest of nine children of Thomas and Olivia Bonar.
When Chuck was a young adult, he moved with the family from Missouri to Douglas, Ariz., where he worked to help his parents.
In his early 20s, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45, where he served as a mechanic.
He lived in the Salem area for several years and while working and living in Madras he met and married Thelma on June 6, 1964.
They moved to the Warren area, and Chuck continued working for PGE as an electrician. He was a union worker and a member of the Masons. He retired in 1986.
Chuck loved fishing, and he and Jeannie used to roller and ice skate.
There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or a problem he couldn't solve.
He was an avid beaver's fan and never missed a game. He was a great lover of dogs and cats and volunteered for years for Columbia Humane Society.
Chuck was the kind of man who would look out for his neighbors and lend a hand wherever he could to help someone out.
Chuck leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Thelma of Warren; children from a former marriage, Sharon and husband Blaine Martin of Salem, and Richard and wife Barbara of Springfield; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and number friends who loved him.
There will be a celebration of Chuck's life on Nov. 18 from 3-5 p.m.
with refreshments at the Scappoose Library.
Donations in Chuck's memory may be made to Columbia Humane Society,
2084 Oregon Street in St. Helens.
