Charles Norman Barker's Obituary
Private, family Graveside Services will be held 2PM, Friday, November 11th at Masonic Cemetery, St. Helens, Oregon. Chuck passed away at his home, November 7th. He was 84 years of age.
Charles "Chuck" Norman Barker was born on May 5, 1927 in Yankton, Oregon, the youngest of four children of Norman Luther and Lottie Elizabeth Holstine Barker. His family was one of the first to Pioneer the Columbia County area. Chuck graduated from St. Helens High School in 1945 and received the H.W.H. Adams Award for Best All-around Athlete. He served our country in the United States Navy during WWII.
After Chuck returned he married his high school sweetheart Jeannette V. Oliver on January 9th, 1948.
A lifetime resident of the area he moved his family to their present home in 1957. He and his family father and brother owned and operated the Flying "A" Oil Distribution, which later included three additional service stations Phillip 66. Chuck retired from the business in 1980. In his younger days, Chuck was a professional Rodeo Cowboy. His favorite events were bareback bronc riding and calf roping, and in later years team roping. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting ducks, elk, or deer and also loved raising cattle and putting up hay. He was a strong supporter of the NRA as well.
Chuck is survived by his bride of 63 years Jeannette, children; Vicki Neveau of Enterprise, Thomas Barker of St. Helens and Lori DeGroot of Springfield, 8 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his siblings; Anne Seal, Helen Flippo and Thomas Henry "Hank" Barker.
