Clarence Raymond Nelson's Obituary
Clarence Nelson
May 22, 1926 ~ July 22, 2015
Clarence Nelson, born May 22, 1926 in Sioux City Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep July 22, 2015. An astute businessman, veteran and fine artist, Nels as he was known to co-workers and friends, traveled the world, and dined with royalty. He worked on monuments to humankind – airports, aqua ducts, dams, pipelines, and transmission lines, and ultimately even more amazing art. He was a man of great depth, much love, a quick wit and sense of humor. He loved deeply, was a devoted husband to Thelma, his wife of 57 years, but his proudest accomplishments were his two daughters Lynn and Cyndi.
His map of his journeys, both alone and with Thelma was always a great conversation starter. He made friends quickly, was active in the Shrine and Elks, was always ready to entertain, and brought laughter to any occasion. Always up early to head to the gym; he enjoyed golf, was an avid reader, and cook (never willing to share those famous family recipes), but always ready to share his art-even illustrating a children’s book for the Orange County Art Museum.
He and Thelma moved to Oregon in 2001, and in 2006 celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family from far and near.
In addition to his daughters he is survived by 3 grandchildren Jaime, Nycki and Peter, seven great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Though he will be sorely missed, his memory will always be cherished in our hearts and souls. Not a day goes by that his handsome smile, vibrant personality and caring loving heart is not thought of and missed. We thank him for giving us our lives and giving us the best parts of himself which we will carry with us forever.
