Clifford A. Kuhl's Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be held, 10 AM, Saturday, December 10th at Grace Lutheran Church in Scappoose, followed by military honors and committal service at Columbia Memorial Gardens.
Cliff passed away surround by the love of his family at his home in Scappoose on November 28th; he was 86 years of age.
Cliff was born January 3, 1925 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Robert August & Erma Ellen James Kuhl, and the second youngest of 5 sons. Raised in Little Falls Cliff attended school like most men of his age until the 8th grade and at the age of 19 he joined the United States Navy in June of 1944 to serve during World War II. He served as a Seaman on the Aircraft Carrier USS Saratoga CV-3 and the USS Oklahoma City Cl-91, Light Cruiser, participating in the battles in the Pacific. In June of 1946 Cliff was honorable discharged from service. After the war he moved to Portland where his brother Harvey lived. It was there during Harvey's wedding he met and later that same year he married his bride Bernice Ann Forcier on December 6, 1947 in Portland.
Cliff worked at B.P Johns Furniture manufacturing before working for Oregon Steel Mill where he was employed for the next 36 years and retired as a Furnace man in 1985. He was also a member of the Boilermaker-Blacksmith Union.
In 1952 he moved to Scappoose where he raised his family. Cliff was a Life Member and Past Chaplain of the Scappoose VFW Post 4362 and Grace Lutheran Church. It was through these two connections that Cliff and Frank Weber, a fellow member of the VFW post started Pennies From Heaven Food Bank in 2000.
Cliff loved life and enjoyed bowling, golfing fishing, camping, and the love and joy his grandchildren and great grandchildren provided him.
Cliff is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Bernice, children and spouses; Marilyn Moffett of Scappoose, Dennis Cathy Kuhl of St. Helens, Renee Ed Roth of Scappoose, 7 grandchildren; Robert, Danielle, Clifford, Darci, Melinda, Melissa, Morgan, 9 great grandchildren; Brody, Logan, McKenzie, Morgan, Dylan, Ashley, Tessa, Carly and Melody. He was preceded in death by his parents; Robert & Erma Kuhl; brothers; Roland, Jesse, Harvey and Virgil.
