Obituary of Cora Mae O'Connor
Memorial Services will be held, 1pm, Thursday, December 29th at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Helens, with private burial at Willamette National Cemetery. Cora passed away at a Portland hospital, December 23rd. She was 87 years of age.
Cora Mae was born in Enterprise, Oregon on May 26, 1924 to Cread and Doris E. Lansing Denney. She graduated from Enterprise High School, Class of 1942 where she was active in both Swimming and Volleyball. Cora managed the swimming pools in both Enterprise and Hermiston, Oregon. Six years out of school she met and married the love of her life, James Raymond O'Connor in Reno, Nevada on May 26, 1948. They were married for almost 63 years. Jim preceded her in death on February 28th of this year. Cora was an active and long term member of Christ Episcopal Church, member of the BAC and volunteered for many years for the Arts & Crafts Faire, United Way Meals on Wheels, St. Helens School District and St. Helens Hospital; and Woman of the Year in 1996 for the Business and Profession Women's Foundation. Cora worked from at least 1946 when she worked for the Wallowa County Sheriff's Department, was the secretary and office manager for the Hermiston School District for over 22 years from 1948 until 1970 and from 1971 until 1986 Cora was the book keeper for the Scappoose School District. Cora was an energetic walker and an avid Oregon DUCKS fan.
Cora is survived by her two children; James S. and his wife; Alina O'Connor of Miami, FL, Kari and husband, Andrew Woyak of Aloha, grandchildren; Kathreen Woyak, Gabriella O'Connor and James O'Connor, brother; Delbert and wife Delores Denney. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Robert Denney.
