Cora - Moreland's Obituary
Cora Schuring Moreland was born on April 29, 1916 in Neerlandia, Alberta, Canada to Peter Dirk Schuring and Jennie VanDalen.
Her father and mother immigrated from the Netherlands to Canada and then to Portland, Oregon to find work. In 1923 the family immigrated through Blaine, WA. to Oregon. Cora was one of 7 siblings, a brother died while they were still in Canada.
After High School she worked for St. Vincents's Hospital in Portland, OR. From 1936 - 1939, she worked for the Montgomery Ward Store in the Inventory/Supply Department in 1940.
During WWII she worked for the Columbia Air Craft Co. in St. Helens as a Rose The Riveter. It was there that she met Gerald Jerry Moreland. They were married on January 24, 1944. He was serving in the Air Force and based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma so she moved there with him. After completing his duty they returned to Warren, OR. And lived down the road form her mother's house. She worked at West Coast Shoe Co. in 1950. In 1963 the family moved to Lincoln City, OR. She worked for the Dairy Queen, The Anchorage part-time, the Delake Bowling Alley and the managed the Salishan Golf Shop Coffee Shop from 1965 until retiring in 1988.
She was an avid bowler until her health prevented her from continuing to play, then found Bingo to be another joy in her life.
Survivors include: Sons: Steven, Joy Davies Moreland of Oregon City; Dennis, Gini Lembkie Moreland of McMinnville; Jeffrey of Tigard; Daughter: Susan Bill Hollander of White Salmon, WA.; Sister: Jo Kallberg of St. Helens; 4 grandchildren; 8 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 daughter.
Graveside service & vault interment: Bethany Memorial Cemetery-Warren, OR. On Friday, July 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM.
