Cris H. Carmell's Obituary
Cris Carmell died March 10th at Longview, Washington; she was 88 years of age.
Cris was born February 6, 1924 in Huron, South Dakota to John and Meta Laurinat Woelpert, the youngest of three daughters. Raised in South Dakota Cris graduated from Huron High School.
A short time later Cris married Landford Overland on November 6, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. From that marriage she had two daughters. Landford preceded her in death in 1980. After the wedding she moved to Madison, Minnesota until 1953 when the family moved to Portland. She raised her family there until she and Landford moved to their gentleman farm at Goble in 1978.
In 1982 she married James "Jim" Phillip Carmell. Jim and Cris lived in Goble until 1999 when due to health issues they moved to Warren to be close to family. Jim preceded her in death in 2000.
Cris worked as a bookkeeper from 1953 until 1985 and for many years she worked with her sister Evelyn at Holiday Travel.
Cris enjoyed life; she stretched her mind by reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, and playing card games.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Cheryl and Richard Gross of Warren, adopted daughter; Jackie Nichols, granddaughter; Melissa Thompson and great grandchildren; Emma & Jack Thompson.
Cris was preceded in death by her daughter Beth Golder and her two sisters.
Private family gathering will be held at a later date.
