Dale N. Cheek's Obituary
Dale N. Cheek was born on September 27, 1924 in Bend, Oregon to Ray & Lenora Burns Cheek.
He died at a Portland hospital on April 8, 2009 at the age of 84.
He grew up in Chapman went to school in Scappoose and graduated from Scappoose Hi School. He was in the US Navy during WWII working as a cook onboard ship. He lived and worked in Portland for many years. He returned to Columbia County two years ago. At the time of his death he was living at Avamere Assited Living Center in St. Helens.
He worked many jobs but he retired from Nabisco Co. in 1987 as a baker after 33 years. There were many loves in his life, his long-time job at NABISCO, a good party, dancing, working with the Salvation Army, corny jokes, his family, his Lord and Saviour, eating out and laughter, lots & lots of laughter. Since he moved to Columbia County his most treasured pastime was hanging out with his niece, Julie Wheeler and her family.
Dale was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in St. Helens.
He never married or had children, but spent a lifetime loving & caring about his nieces & nephews.
He is survived by his sister: Alice Cave of Bellingham, WA.; sister-in-law: Jeanie Cheek of Willmington, N. Carolina; nieces & nephews: Julie Wheeler, Jenny Jones, Linda Cave, Bill Cheek, Trent Cave. Preceding him in death were his two brothers: Alvin & Russell Cheek; nieces: Jody Cheek & Laura Cave; nephews: Allan & David Cave all of Columbia County.
Funeral Service: Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 10:00 AM at First Missionary Baptist Church-St. Helens
Committal service & vault interment: Bethany Memorial Cemetery-Warren, Oregon.
