Darlene Rose Mullican's Obituary
Darlene Rose Mullican, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home on May 3rd, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Darlene was born on August 1, 1940, in White Lake, South Dakota. She was the beloved wife of the late Jack L. Mullican, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage, until his passing in 2013.
Darlene's journey began in South Dakota where she was born near her family's homestead in Tripp County. In 1946, her parents, Arthur (Art) and Thelma Vawser, packed up their 6 children and Darlene's grandparents and moved to Scappoose, Oregon. She graduated from Scappoose Union High School in 1958 and soon afterwards married Jack Mullican. Together they raised two sons, Tim and Todd Mullican.
Together, Darlene and Jack embarked on a successful business venture, purchasing Columbia Feed & Supply in 1974, and continued in business for 40 years. Darlene's passion for flowers led her to transform a part of the business into "Flowers by Darlene," where she poured her heart into creating beautiful arrangements for the community.
Outside of work, Darlene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, gardening, and liked to watch the birds and wildlife at her bird feeder from the family room of her house.
Darlene will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and successful businesswoman. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her sons, Tim (Pamela) Mullican and Todd (Leah) Mullican; her grandchildren, Christina Siroky, Blaine Mullican, and Eileen Mullican; her sister, Glenda (George) Heimuller; her sister, Gladys (Jim) Miken; plus many nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends who will cherish her memory dearly. A special thank you goes out to Rhonda Dunaway for her dedication and loving care for Darlene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 50925 Old Portland Road, in Scappoose, Oregon, on May 31st at 1:00pm, followed by a celebration of Darlene's life at the Elk's Lodge, 350 Benton Road, St. Helens, Oregon, starting at 2:30pm.
