Obituary of David Harvey Olson, Sr.
Funeral Services will be held, 11am, Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Columbia Funeral Home.
David passed away in St. Helens on August 28th, he was 72 years old.
David was born on December 5, 1939 in Ogallala, Nebraska the 3rd eldest of 5 children born to Harold Eugene and Ruth Marie Holderman Olson. The family moved to Columbia City when David was about 16 years old where he graduated two years later from St. Helens High School, class of 1958.
It was the same year he married Cynthia Bartlett on June 28th. From this union they had three children.
Life changed and they later divorced. He worked for the Port of Portland for over 30 years as a Crew Boat Operator, retiring in 1996. He was also a member of Local 701, International Union of Operating Engineers for over 30 years.
Early in his youth he was a member of 1st Christian Church.
David enjoyed watching both college and professional football and basketball and was conflicted when his other pleasure "The Price is Right" was on at the same time.
He dearly loved his two dogs, "O-2" and "T-2" an English Bull Dog and Cocker Spaniel.
David is survived by his children; Kelly Beaver of Rainier, David H. Olson, JR of Longview, WA and Patricia Sperr of Aurora, CO, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, siblings; Barbara Jones of Fresno, CA, Leonard Olson of Phoenix, AZ and Lorna Matthews of Boring, OR.
Pre-deceased by Sister Virginia Hines.
