David Sloan's Obituary
David Sloan, age 94, departed this life on Monday September 23 2024 at home in Warren. Oregon. Dave was born on December 15, 1929 on Shawsmuir Farm, Closeburn Village, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, the next to last of six children born to William and Margaret Sloan. During his youth on the farm, WWII began and Dave talked of working alongside German prisoners of war and witnessing some of the German bombing of Glasgow in 1940. After finishing school at 16, Dave worked farm and manufacturings jobs in Scotland. He emigrated to Canada when he turned 21, and trained as a pipefitter, eventually working on the trans Canada pipeline, Trojan nuclear power plant, Titan Missle Silos, and many other projects in the Pacific Northwest, California, Arizona, Hawaii and New Zealand. Dave was a lifetime member of the UA Local No. 290 Plumber, Steamfitter, & Shipfitter’s Union.
Dave met his beloved Maureen, our Mom, while Scottish Country Dancing and in June 1987 they married. Along with the marriage came four adult stepchildren and eventually grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dave and Maureen were married for 37 years. Together they enjoyed traveling the US and Canada in their RV, and travels further afield including back home to England and Scotland, and Costa Rica, Panama, the Caribbean, Europe and Australia. When not traveling, Dave enjoyed playing golf, hiking, watching a variety of sports, and working in his amazing flower and vegetable gardens.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Maureen, stepchildren Steve Seaman (Beth), Karen Simms (Jeff), Patrick Seaman and Margaret Ore (Stephen), 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a large extended family in Scotland including his namesake nephew David Drife and his wife Liz.
