My favorite memory would be the time Del came screeching up in my boyfriend’s car. Since Del didn’t have a car on base and Terry did. When I looked out the window I saw 2 guys throwing Terry out of the his car and then Del was speeding off. Terry was drunk and laughing laying in the grass. He told me that “MATT” kept giving him shots until he would agree to let him take his car down to Portland. Terry said “ He was just kidding”. Knowing Del, I said “I don’t think so”! Sure enough he spent the weekend in St Helens. I took Terry back to the Fort Lewis and he learned that all the guys in the car were on leave until Sunday. We both laugh every time we tell the story. Del was like a brother to Terry and every time they got together they shared stories that only they could understand. Del was a special guy & special friend. Rest In Peace
So disappointed that we will not be able to come tomorrow . We had planned to come but with the weather predicting snow on both days and I-5 backing up on a normal day, we will not be able to make it. You are in our thoughts & prayers.
I graduated with Delbert in 61. Remember him as a happy fun loving high schooler. Sorry to say I moved right after high school and didn't keep in touch.
So many memories of Del and the good times we had at the mill. What a neat guy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Miss Kay
Delbert and I are lifelong friends and worked together at the papermill. He was a fine man, hardworking and dedicated to the goal of keeping that mill running in a safe manner. As fire chief for many years, he made sure crews were trained and that we continually kept connected to our local firefighters/Columbia River Fire and Rescue.
We were also family friends --- Jeanette and the girls were a special part of our lives. Loved riding in his fancy cars, attending birthday celebrations at Allison's and Brent's and supporting grandson Dylan in his sport endeavors!
We are going to miss you Delbert.
