Deloris Arleen Paterson's Obituary
Deloris Arleen Paterson, 77, a resident of the Scappoose community passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 16, at 2:00 P.M. at the Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon.
Deloris was born on July 11, 1933 in St Helens, OR She was the youngest of nine children born to William and Sophia Bertilson Cook. She was raised and received her education in St Helens attending St Helens High School and graduating with the Class of 1951. She met her future husband, James "Jim" D. Paterson at her freshman high school Valentines dance. They were classmates and soon began dating. After four more years of courting, they were married on July 19, 1952 in St Helens, OR. After marrying, they followed Jim's military assignment living at Ft. Ord, CA. In 1955 they moved back to St. Helens and lived there up until 1972, when Jim became employed in the Gladstone area. They moved to Milwaukie and lived for seven years. The Paterson's then bought a restaurant, Ichabod's, and settled in the Scappoose area where they have lived ever since.
Deloris was first and foremost a Mom, grandmother, and loving wife. Lori, as she was called by family and friends, is also co-owner/operator of Ichabod's Restaurant in Scappoose. Among her interests, she enjoyed cross stitching and crocheting. She was also an avid piano player and sang in her church choir. Deloris was involved in tap, cheerleading, and gymnastics while in high school. She loved family and would spend many Saturdays at her mother's home with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Jim and Deloris enjoyed traveling, visiting all of the western states including Canada and Mexico. She was a great cook, an animal lover, excellent listener, and a quiet devoted friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings. Survivors include her loving husband; Jim of the family home, two children and their spouses; James W. and Kathy Paterson of Hillsboro, OR, Dianne and Roy Holmes of Gresham, OR, five grandchildren; , Molly, Tyler, James V, Kylie, Sophia, four great grandchildren; Madilyn, Kaiser, Garrett, Addyson and Tristan, and her older sister Shirley Eaton of St. Helens.
