Doris M. Shaffer's Obituary
Doris M. Shaffer was born on April 17, 1916 in Ellsworth, NE. to William & Beaupha Wyland Matthews.
She died at a St. Helens care center on July 26, 2005 at the age of 89.
She attended schools and graduated from Edgemont, S. Dakota Hi in 1934. She went on to Black Hills Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Rapid City, S. Dakota, graduating on September 1, 1939. During the war she was a Rosie the rivitor. She went on to work as a nurse for American Airlines, retiring in 1978.
She married John on February 9, 1947 in Santa Monica, CA., he preceded her in death on 5/5/04.
They moved to the Portland area from California to be closer to family in 1981. They were members of St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed handwork projects, square & round dancing, cooking, camping and gardening.
Survivors include: Daughters: Irene Fuller of Warren, OR.; Dena Chesney of Scappoose, OR.; sister: Nina Pofahl; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service & Vault interment: Friday, July 29, 2005 at 9:00 AM at Columbia Memorial Gardens-Scappoose,
Celebration of Life: Sat.; July 30, 2005 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church-St. Johns, OR.
