Dorthy Beaston
October 3, 1925 ~ September 10, 2014
Dorthy Beaston was born in Antlers, Oklahoma October 3, 1925, where as a baby she lived with her four sisters and mother in a tent after her father left the family. Eventually the family moved to the widow’s colony started by Charlie Paige in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
At fourteen Dorthy was introduced to Bill Beaston, by her sister Novy. At 15, Dorthy and William married. They stayed for 50 years until William went to be with the Lord in 1992.
In 1954, Dorthy and Bill bought their farm in Scappoose on Dutch Canyon Road, where they had a dairy farm for a number of years.
A natural artist, Dorthy used her talents to make porcelain dolls and their clothes. She was also an avid quilter. She was known for hand sewing them. Always the entrepreneur, she took many of the things she created along with her antiques to sell at the Sandy Barr flea-market and other places.
Dorthy loved working in her garden and in her workshop, nicknamed the “Valley of Dry Bones”, making dolls.
She spent many hours working in the thrift-shop at the senior center in Scappoose.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her husband William and son Bill. She is survived by 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
