Duncan H. Reeds' Obituary
Duncan H. Reeds passed away March 28, 2008.
He was born to Raymond and Irene Reeds in Deerfield, Illinois on May 5, 1916. Duke, as he was known by most, was a devoted family man and active in the Catholic Church. He was also a life time active member of the Boy Scouts. Any spare time was spent alongside a stream or lake fishing. He had a great respect for the out doors and all animal life. His dogs were a highlight of his life. He even grew close to his cat "Miss Kitty".
Duke described the Deerfield of his youth as a "small village" of about 300 people. He often would tell stories of walking in the woods and visiting with Indians. Duke attended Deerfield High School. He moved on to the University Of Illinois for 3 years in the College of Advanced Traffic and graduated with a degree in Traffic Management.
One of his favorite stories was how he was driving 1926 Ford along and saw his sweetheart Eleanor walking with her friends. He stopped and asked if she would like a ride and she invited her friends. He was quite the man about town with three girls in the back seat. He married Eleanor F. McDermott on November 23, 1939 in DeWill, Iowa. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Duke and Eleanor had three children, William D. Reeds, james C. Reeds and Mary F. Reeds.
Duke began his working life as a gas station attendant but soon moved on to Hughes Cartage Co.. After Eleanor's passing he moved to Oregon to be close to his family and spent his remaining years with his son James. He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Surviving family members are: Son: Jim Reeds and his wife Sandy; Daughter: Mary Maximchuck;Niece: LeeAnn Banducci and her husband Al of Roseville, CA and Laura Reeds of Memphis, TN.;Nephew: Jeff Reeds and his wife Nicole of Roseville, CVA; Grandchildren: Susan B. Reeds-Wagoner of Summerville, OR, William J. Reeds and his wife Angie of Eugene, OR, Matthew W. Reeds of Milwaukie, Oregon and Erica Coffield of Beaverton, Oregon; Great Grandchildren: Chance and Ashley Williams, Hutch and Ian Wagoner.
Rosary will be held at St. Frederic Catholic Church, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 12:00pm, services will follow at 1:00 PM
