Dwight Edward Barlow's Obituary
A family gathering will be held, Sunday, May 6th at 1pm at the family residence. Dwight passed away on April 25th in Portland. He was 78 years of age.
Dwight Edward Barlow was born on September 1, 1933 in New Britain, Connecticut to Robert Henry and Marguerite Vara Melville Barlow, the youngest of two children.
He was raised in Lansing, Michigan and graduated from Sexton High School, class of 1951. Dwight served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1958 through 1963, when he was honorably discharged.
He married Marcia Lee Smith in 1964 on December 20th in Livermore, California. He received two degrees from Michigan State University, one degree in Animal Husbandry, the other in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with honors in both majors, and was a member of an honorary engineering fraternity.
He worked for many years as a contract Mechanical engineer, primarily in two fields. One was with the University of California Livermore Lab, and the Lab's test site in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the other in the was with WPPS nuclear plant in Richland, WA. He also worked briefly on a space shuttle following the Challenger. He retired in the year 2000.
Dwight was a single engine pilot, and owned several small aircraft. He was a sky diver, a NAUI certified scuba diver, and an avid sailor.
Dwight moved to Scappoose initially in 1973, moved to Richland, WA with his family later in that same year, then returned to their "farm" in 1984. While maintaining ties to Scappoose, Dwight and Marcia moved to Potrerillos, Panama for the cold Scappoose winter months. It was in Panama where he fell ill.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Marcia, his eldest son, Mark, his daughter, Jamie, and his youngest son, Brent. He also has a grandson, Aidan, and two grandaughters, Megan and Lindsay.
