Obituary of EDMOND THEODORE BURTON
Funeral Services will be held, 1pm, Friday, January 6th at Sunset Park Community Church, St. Helens. Ed passed away January 1st in St. Helens, he was 90 years old.
Born in Klamath Falls October 20, 1921 to Clayton Edmond and Annie Laura Nelson Burton, Ed was the 2nd of four children. They grew up in the Klamath Falls area around Keno, Oregon. After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, serving mostly at Hill Field, Ogden, Utah before going overseas to Okinawa. After his military service his family moved to Cave Junction, Oregon where they farmed. He also joined his father and brother in a logging operation until 1949 when he left for college. After graduation he moved to St. Helens to help with a very small church which was later renamed Sunset Park Church. Ed went to Pacific Bible School renamed Warner Pacific College in Portland graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Theology Degree. While at college he met Martha Esther Ganz in 1949, the next year they were married on July 30, 1950.
Ed worked at Swift & Company Meat Packing Company part time while going to college, then full time another three years after moving to St. Helens. In 1957 he began working for Kaiser Gypsum Company which later became Owens-Corning in St. Helens until they closed the mill in 1982. He had worked as a tile machine operator, then trained as a millwright. After the mill closed he later worked for the St. Helens Parks Department until he retired in the late 90's.
Ed has been a member of Sunset Park Community Church since moving to St. Helens, taking an active part in many ministries of the church.
Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years Martha, children; Shirlene Stephen Perini of Egg Harbor City, NJ, Ted Burton of Great Falls, MT, Lorna Standeford Dan of Rapid City, SD, Kevin Kathi Burton of St. Helens and Merrie Loyd of St. Helens.
Grandchildren: Geoffrey Crezee, Michael Ryan Crezee, Karissa Griffith, Micah Perini, David Perini, Madison Laughlin, Molli McLean-Burton; Courtney Armstrong and Dallas Naish, Great Grandchildren: Elyssa Griffith, Chloe Griffith, Annalise Griffith, Levi Crezee and Lydia Crezee, siblings; Rosalie Collins of Colorado Springs, CO, Alfred Burton of New Castle, CA, and Lauralie Barrett of Klamath Falls
Preceded by Three grandchildren: Ashley Burton, Brandon Crezee, and Matthew Burton.
