Eldered Nelson's Obituary
Edlered "Sonny" Nelson was born in Nampa, Idaho on 2/1/24 and passed away on 10/10/08 at The Marquis Care Center in Forest Grove, Oregon after a long battle with congestive heart failure. "Sonny" had lived in St. Helens since 1952 and had resided in the same house from that date forward, until illness placed him at the Marquis where he was well cared for and loved by all.
Sonny had worked most of his life as a sawfiler at Crown Zellerbach sawmill in Columbia City and loved his work, finally retiring in 1983, but still filling saws for his friends and family.
He proudly served World War 11 with the US Navy repairing aircraft on the island of Saipan.
Sonny was a devoted member of Sunset Park Community Church for over 50 years, enjoyed his bible study group, his HO railroading, old cars, antiques, and woodworking to create projects for his wife Nola to paint.
His life was quiet one, but his smile and love consumed so many of his friends and relatives.
He is survived by his son Mar Nelson, grandchildren, Joel, Jenny and Austin and great grandchildren, Kayla and Riley all of Hillsboro, Oregon. They will all miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at Sunset Park Community Church on Thursday, 10/16/08 at 11:00 a.m. with his interment at columbia Memorial Gardens, any donations would be greatly appreciated to Sunset Park Community Church.
