Obituary of Elmer Mark SIMPSON
Private burial at Willamette National Cemetery will be held for Elmer M. Simpson. Elmer died January 14, 2011 in Beaverton, Oregon, He was 85 years old.
Elmer was born March 22, 1925 in Highland, Kansas to Raymond Elmer and Mabel Shaffer Simpson the elder of two children. He graduated from Highland High School, May 13, 1943. He joined the Merchant Marines a few years later, serving during World War II. After the Service he moved to Columbia City and married Evelyn Joy Tomanka, April 22, 1950 in St. Helens. They made their home in St Helens for over 55 years. Elmer worked for Boise Cascade for over 36 years retiring in the late 1980's as a Leadman. He was a member of the AWPPW and enjoyed his visits to FARA. After retirement he and Evelyn travelled. They travelled to Hawaii eight times, also visited Florida and took many trips to the Oregon coast. His greatest joy was his family, spending time with his grandchildren as they were growing up.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 60 years ; Evelyn, daughter; Dianne Larson and husband Mark, son; Duane Simpson, grandchildren; Shannon Larson, Sean Larson and wife Gina, Stephanie Ciftci and husband Gokhan, and Brianna Simpson, Great grandchildren; Demir Ciftci and Scarlett Larson.
