Elroy Thoren Anderson
1934 ~ 2016
Elroy “Andy” Thoren Anderson was born to parents Carl I. Anderson and Ethel J. Anderson, in Clatskanie, Oregon in 1934. At the age of four, his family moved to Bachelor Flat, after high school Andy, as he liked to be called, enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years.
In the Air Force, he became an aircraft electrician. Through his time in the Air Force, he served in Japan during the Korean War, and after that, he was stationed in Atwater, California. He worked his way up through the ranks to a become Senior Airman.
It was in California that he met his wife, Mary Louise Corriea, in 1957, while he worked hauling hay for different farmers on weekends. They were wed on December 20, 1958.
After marrying in California, Elroy and Mary settled in St. Helens, Oregon. Elroy started working 10 months later, at Boise Cascade, on October 23, 1959, as a paper maker. Elroy and Mary had eight children, who he loved very much.
Elroy enjoyed working on homes and remodeling them, including rental properties he once owned and the home he bought on Second Street for his family in 1963, where Mary still resides. People who knew him also knew that he was quite the carpenter. Elroy’s other interests included logging history and steam trains; he was also extremely interested in the history of St. Helens.
Elroy enjoyed camping, family gatherings, barbecuing and gospel and country music.
He is survived by his wife Mary; his, sister Uldine Anderson, of Tillamook, Oregon; eight children - son, Martin Anderson, of Vancouver; daughters, Trudy Hobizal, of St. Helens; Judy Sprague, of Montana; Cheryl Ann Kingston, of Longview; Janice Johnson, of St Helens; Rose Jewel, of Vancouver; Mary Jane Anderson, of St Helens; son, Mark Anderson, of Idaho; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, in St. Helens, Oregon, at Sunset Park Community Church on Sunset Way.
