Ernest L. Smith was born on December 31, 1939 in St. Helens, OR. to Ernest C. & Frances Wheeler Smith.
He died peacefully in his home of cancer with his family at his side on February 12, 2005 at the age of 65.
Ernest was born, raised and lived his life in St. Helens, OR., living here for 65 years.
He married Rachael on April 22, 1961 in Canaan Community church in Canaan, OR.
Ernest was a member of the St. Helens Port Commission, the Western Council of Industrial Worker-Timber Operator Council, North American Hunting Club, National Rifle Association, Oregon State Sheriff's Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. A talented fly tyer and maker of fishing rods.
He was the Proprietor of the Fireside Inn at Woodson, OR.; owner & operator of Ernie Smith General Contractors; Ernie's Custom Charters and Guide Service and a guide at Lost Lake Resort in the Mt. Hood National Forest for 14 years. Retiring on December 31, 2001.
Survivors include: Wife: Rachael Smith; Daughter & Son-in-law: Teresa and Craig Knudsen all of Warren, OR.; Clydean Ellery of Oregon City, OR.; 4 grandchildren: Jillian, Trista, Matthew, Nick.
Funeral Service: Friday, February 18, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Committal Service & Vault interment: Columbia Memorial Gardens Cemetery-Scappoose, OR.
