Estella M. Olson of St. Helens, Oregon passed away on August 29, 2015 at the age of 95. She was born April 27, 1920 in Warren, Oregon to Nels and Martha (Johnson) Olson, she was the youngest of 9 children. Estella grew up and attended Warren Grade School and graduated from Scappoose High in 1938 as the Salutatorian.
Estella met her husband Perry M. Olson while he was working at J.D. Honeyman Ranch, which is now Columbia Memorial Gardens. He was working as a cow milker while she was picking potatoes and they flirted through the fence. They married on June 18, 1938 in Vancouver, Washington they were married for 70 years until his death on April 17, 2008.
Estella was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Ladies Club in the Bunker Hill area. She also enjoyed picking strawberries and she loved her yard. Estella wrote lyrics for “Think of Me” a country song performed by Buck Owens and many poems throughout her life.
She is survived by her children: Janet Tobin (Ron Swanson), Sharon Oliver (Dave) and Larry Olson (Bette); grandchildren: Eric Olson, Candy Reagan, Rob Reichelt, Michelle Lane, Corey Oliver, Julie Sandstrom, Mike Miller and Michelle Smith; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and all of her special family at Spring Meadows Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her husband Perry all of her siblings and her parents.
A Celebration of Life lunch will be held October 18, 2015 from 12:00 -3:00 pm at
