I was fortunate to meet Esther in 1970 when she was living in Buena Park, California. Esther was my friend’s mother-in-law. She was always extremely kind and gracious, and famous for her berry pies. Several years later her daughter’s family moved to Washington State. When Esther came up to visit, I was usually fortunate enough to take home one of her legendary pies.
Besides her pies, one thing I will never forget about Esther was her incredible memory. Last year, when visiting her in Hillsboro, I wanted to show her some pictures on my laptop but didn’t know the wi-fi password. Her daughter was opening all sorts of drawers and notebooks, hoping to find the password. Esther said she believed the password was “XXXXXXXX”. She was right, and Ester didn’t even own or use a computer, incredible.
Esther’s memory never faded. My memory sometimes lapses, it will never be as amazing as Esther’s, but I will never forget this delightful and beautiful person.
