Eugene Stratton's Obituary
Our loving sweet father Eugene "DOC" Stratton passed on Sunday, November 29, 2009. He enjoyed 87 years of a full and wonderful life. He was born in May 1922 in Hoquiam, Washington. While living and working in Salt Lake City, Utah he met his beautiful wife Diana. Doc moved his family to the community of St. Helens, Oregon in 1970 and lived in Deer Island where he spent his last morning at home.
He was a colorful character with a repertoire of funny jokes and anecdotes about life. His main purpose and focus was his family. He had an incredible memory of interstate highways and routes. He often shared stories of his travels though each of the 48 contiguous states. A lover of literature and murder mysteries, he read all of the Tony Hillerman novels. He stressed the importance of education and the gift of reading to everyone.
Doc's many Hobbies included his love of all types of music, horses and the joy of the outdoors by taking many family vacations that included hunting, fishing, camping and skiing trips. Doc could be found each season watching his favorite football and baseball games. He also enjoyed coaching his youngest daughter's softball team.
Survivors include his wife Diana of 57 years, his six children, Gina, Dave, Sheila, Mick, Tony and Sandee, his 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
A Rosary and mass was held in his honor Friday, December 4th at St. Fredric Parish in St. Helens, Or. Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
