Evelyn Jean Lemke's Obituary
Evelyn Jean Lemke of Scappoose, Oregon died April 29, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon at the age of 89. Evelyn was born July 18, 1931 to Henry & Elizabeth Wiebe in St. Helens, Oregon she was the youngest of 7 children. She grew up and attended school in St. Helens, later moving into Portland.
In 1950 Evelyn married Darwin Lemke he was soon after drafted to the Korean War while he was away Evelyn waited for him in Louisiana when he returned home in 1955 they moved Portland and later settled in Scappoose, Oregon in 1959, together they raised three children. When their youngest child started school Evelyn started a job with Scappoose School District as a teachers aid where she taught reading and speech for over 26 years. Her best memories were not only of the children she taught but also the members of the faculty that became her best friends. Even after all these years when it came time for someone’s birthday she thought that was a good reason to get together for a luncheon. Evelyn’s favorite pastime was her yard full of beautiful plants; there was no such thing as having too many flowers and a green lawn was a must!
She is survived by her daughter Tami (Randy) Baker, a son Robert Lemke, the grandchildren she loved so much; Brian Baker and his son Mason, JD Baker, Staci Luque, Roy Lemke and his daughter Ava. She was preceded in death by her Husband Darwin Lemke, and a son Jerry Lemke.
