Obituary of Florence Marie Johnson
Florence Johnson passed away, August 26th at Stonebridge Care Community in Vancouver, Washington. She was 95 years old.
A funeral Service will be held, 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 31st at Columbia Funeral Home, St. Helens, Oregon.
Florence was born the seventh of eight children on November 27, 1914 in Hanska, Minnesota to Peter Iver and Anna Marie Melheim Wang. She married Glen Vincent Johnson, her high school sweetheart and love of her life April of 1933 1933 in Deer River, Minnesota. They had three children, two sons: Glen Jr., Duane and a daughter Verna. They moved from Warba, Minnesota to Racine, Wisconsin where Florence began working outside the home during the World War II years. Relocating to Portland, Oregon, Florence continued her employment with Fred Meyer, Western Auto and owned and operated dry cleaners in Portland before working for Electronic Specialties.
In her retirement, Florence and Glen moved to Scappoose in 1974 where both were active in the Senior Center and the Bethany Lutheran Church. Music was a large part of her social life. Proud of her Norwegian heritage, she passed on many of her Norwegian traditions to her family and was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Florence was a strong willed lovely lady who enjoyed gardening and flowers but most of all, she treasured her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Florence passed from this life to a better place with her Lord and Savior, but left her family with many fond memories.
Preceded in death by her husband in 1985, she is survived by her children and their families; Glen and Judy Johnson of Vancouver, Washington, Duane and Teresa Johnson of Sherwood, Oregon, Verna and Jim Eason of McCall, Idaho. 9 Grandchildren and spouses; Greg Johnson & Sue Eastman, Mike Johnson, Lynda & Perry DuLong, Curt & Alissa Johnson, Stephanie & Kevin McKillip, Kris & Dawn Johnson, Lisa and Jeff Cook, Leslee & Don Gongaware, Steven & Trayce Eason and 17 great grandchildren.
The Florence Johnson family would like to say a special thanks to all those at the Stonebridge Memory Care Community and SW Washington Hospice in Vancouver, Washington for their kindness and caring in Florence's final time of need.
